Baby Jaundice
Jaundice is not a disease; rather it's a symptom, which can be recognized by the yellow color of the skin. In the womb the baby depends on the high level of red blood cells to receive adequate amount of oxygen. And after birth the excess blood cells break down.

Bilirubin is the chief cause of creating Jaundice. For the infants it appears on the 3rd day and disappears by 7th day of birth. Jaundice among babies is never so serious a matter to worry about until the bilirubin level go up too high.

Excessive bleeding during the birth process can sometime cause jaundice among the infants. Breast feeding a baby in the early stages after their birth can certainly reduce the occurrence of jaundice among new born babies. This process also helps to stimulate the breast to continue producing milk.

Some of the other causes of jaundice among babies are:

A premature baby is more likely in getting affected by jaundice as the immature lever fails to cope with the high load of bilirubin.

The incompatibility regarding Blood group and Rhesus can be one of the factors causing jaundice among a child. This is why it becomes mandatory for all pregnant women to go for prenatal check ups for finding the occurrence of this problem. On getting known, it becomes easy to take preventive measures against jaundice soon after the birth.

The deficiency in G6PD can also lead to causing jaundice among the new born babies.
